What is GLOBE?
GLOBE is a virtual cooperation exercise lasting several days. It has been organised every semester since 2013 by a group of students from the BA "International Relations and Management" at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg. It is planned and carried out together with international students and renamed experts. In the exercise, the participants deal with a United Nations humanitarian crisis operation in different roles and scenarios and have to develop and apply solutions together.

The learning objectives, which are incorporated in all planning steps during the creation of the scenario, are wide-ranging.
First and foremost, the students should learn how to quickly integrate themselves into the organisational and process structure of an international organisation. Where do I stand in the hierarchy of my (UN) organisation? What exactly is my task? How are the work processes organised?
In addition, the importance of situational awareness within the framework of the process structure is to be conveyed.
On this basis, the participants work on an inter-organisational planning task. The complexity of such a project as well as how to deal with it should be brought closer to students.
Besides these primary learning objectives, many competences are trained during the three days:
- Virtual/Intercultural/Professional Collaboration
- Teamwork and team building
- Leadership and project management
- Decision making
- Critical thinking
- Digital Literacy
- Dealing with criticism
- Subsumption and reproduction of information
- Stress resilience
- Time management

The Head and Deputy of Exercise Control represent the student leadership of the exercise. They are in regular contact with the academic director, Prof. Bresinsky, and coordinate the diverse tasks of the organisational team.
The stakeholder team takes care of all external contacts. This includes contact with the many renamed experts and role players involved in the exercise. Marketing and public relations are also competencies of the team.
The scripting team is responsible for preparing the content of the exercise scenario. They try to represent reality as well as possible. This is achieved by extensive research, following the daily news and talking to experts.
Another integral part is the IT team, which takes care of the technical infrastructure needed for virtual collaboration.
Evaluation teams observe and assess the participants' behaviour and working methods. The results are communicated to the participants in personal feedback sessions. This shows the high value placed on the further development of the individual members of the training audience.
