Architecture (Master)
The consecutive Master of Architecture degree programme offered by the OTH Regensburg comprises four semesters and awards a "Master of Arts" degree.
In its Master programme the faculty places its thematic focus on "Architecture and Context". The future of architecture will be determined by the tension between the opposing poles of technical progress, energy efficiency and climate protection on the one hand, and on the other contextual compatibility in a changing society.
Regensburg, which was granted World Heritage status in 2006 and is currently experiencing a significant growth dynamic, provides an optimal learning and research environment for contemporary interaction with historic architectural contexts.

The Master's degree in architecture specializes in the contextual parameters of the European city. Through the in-depth and interdisciplinary training, students learn to recognize complex issues, to find their own positioning and solutions. The course is divided into in-depth project work, theory and general scientific skills.
The course has a modular structure: The focus is on the respective master's project (design) and the related advanced module, in which, in addition to the classic core competence of building construction, human sciences, ecology, economics and cultural studies are taught. On the basis of concrete structural tasks, the students are sensitized to think interdisciplinary and to work out new creative solutions. This creates a practical application reference and individual specialization options for the students.
In addition to thorough training in all structural and artistic aspects of traditional and current architectural design, the faculty attaches particular importance to a contemporary reference to the structural context.
Study goal and perspectives
Study objective:
The students learn to work scientifically. They are taught methods of setting up theses and solving problems. On the basis of concrete structural tasks, the students are sensitized to think interdisciplinary and to work out new creative solutions. This creates a practical application reference and individual specialization options for the students
Fields of activity:
The Master of Arts enables membership in the Chamber of Architects and thus the use of the protected professional title "Architect". It offers the opportunity to do a doctorate, to work in the higher service of a civil service career and is internationally recognized as equivalent to the university degree.
Notified degree program:
OTH graduates of the master’s degree in architecture have had their professional qualifications recognized automatically in all EU member states since February 2012, so they can work as architects throughout Europe without having to have their degrees recognized individually. This is ensured by the notification of our architecture courses to the responsible EU working group in February 2012.
"Notification" refers to the procedure for determining the conformity of new architecture courses with European law, i.e. our BA / MA courses after the architecture diploma course has expired. This leads to an entry of the course in Appendix V. 5.7.1 of the European Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications (BARL). This facilitates access to professions regulated abroad - which includes the profession of architect in almost all member states, but lawyers and pharmacists are also included, for example. Only those in Appendix V.5.7.1. University degrees accepted by BARL and published in the EU Official Journal are subject to automatic recognition. In terms of scope and effort, the entire procedure is comparable to an accreditation.
