Master Automotive Electronics (part-time)

Master Automotive Electronics (part-time)

Degree programme objectives

This part-time MEng teaches the fundamental know-how of automotive system components and an understanding of system-level analysis in an automotive context. System-level analysis extends over the entire product lifecycle and comprises electronic hardware, software and system communications as well as sensor and actuator interfaces with the vehicle. An in-depth study of those specialisms which the automotive industry identifies as ‘particularly challenging’ enables students to subsequently apply the acquired knowledge and techniques at their place of work. The degree programme’s overriding goal is to equip engineers to meet these special challenges through a practice-oriented course that is based on a solid foundation of scientific knowledge and methodology.

Entry requirements

  • You should have a first degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, computer engineering or a related subject obtained at a German university of applied sciences or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution.
  • You must have worked in industry for at least one year after obtaining your first degree.
  • You will be required to attend an interview to assess whether you meet the requirements for a successful course of study and whether the conditions of contract are satisfied.

Degree title, career opportunities

Successful completion of the Master examination confers the academic degree of Master of Engineering (MEng) which will open up a range of new paths:

  • Eligibility to progress to a doctorate
  • Promotion within your existing organisation
  • Career opportunities
  • Change of specialism

Degree programme and module structure

Module 1:       System-Level Analysis of Vehicles

Module 2:       Technology

Module 3:       System Lifecycle Management

Module 4:       Function and Software Development Methods

Module 5:       Present and Future Communication Architecture

Module 6:       Power Electronics, EMC, and Innovative Approaches

The modules which make up the part-time MEng Automotive Electronics course all deal with related topics, they are thematically self-contained (so need not be taken in any specific order) and take place in face-to-face teaching sessions in discrete blocks at OTH Regensburg. Each module includes a private study element for preparation and follow-up (earning 10 ECTS credits per module).

MEng project:  Why not use your Master thesis to promote or even inspire a particular innovation within your company. Our professors and lecturers are on hand to advise and support you through this process.
