Master of Information Technology (part-time)

The digital transformation is bringing not only technological change but is putting increasing demands on employees as well. The field of information technology is developing dynamically and new thematic areas are gaining in importance. This is a sector in which personnel are faced with the challenge of having to further develop their own skills in order to keep pace with the demands of the world of work. A Master course designed specifically for this sector is now being offered at OTH Regensburg to enable employees to master these demands.

Study objectives

On the Master of Information Technology course students will acquire comprehensive, detailed and specialised knowledge reflecting the very latest level of developments in information technology and digitisation. They will also acquire extended knowledge in closely related fields. With the methodological and analytical skills and specialist technical abilities they have acquired, course graduates will be able to appraise theories and methods, procedural models, tools and systems according to scientific criteria and use them to solve problems of practical relevance. This in turn will enable them to solve strategic problems, to weigh up alternatives if information is incomplete, to develop new ideas and processes and to evaluate them using different reference criteria.

Target group

• Engineers with at least two years of experience working in IT
• Computer scientists with a first degree and at least two years of experience working in IT

Entrance requirements

Applicants to the course must hold a relevant first degree and have at least two years of professional experience working in the IT sector. All computer science and information technology courses taken at German universities of applied sciences count as ‘relevant’. Engineers or graduates of other technical courses must show that they have 30 ‘IT-relevant’ ECTS points which they acquired either during or after the study course.

Course duration

This part-time Master degree course normally extends over three-and-a-half years (seven semesters). The face-to-face teaching sessions are organised in discrete blocks in a total of seven modules taken over semesters 1 to 5. Two semesters (6 and 7) are set aside for preparing the Master thesis.

Tuition times

One to two modules are scheduled for each semester. These are held in block format.

Completion

Students must obtain 90 credit points to complete the course. Students who pass the final examination gain the academic degree of Master of Engineering (MEng). This MEng will allow you to progress to a PhD and will open access to higher levels in business and industry.
